TÜV Rheinland to inspect electronic cattle auction in Brazil
TÜV Rheinland is to inspect lots to validate quality of auctioned animals
In May, TÜV Rheinland Brazil and the National Association of Cattlefeeders (Assocon) entered into an agreement for inspection of cattle to be auctioned on the Lance Campo News Portal (http://assocon.camponews.com.br/).
The first virtual auction was held on June 16th during Feicorte, the largest fair in the sector. The first round of trading showed the portals potential for becoming an important tool in the trading of beef cattle, generating over €1.2 million in trade involving 36 cattle raisers and 10 meat-packing companies.
Daniel Gularte Xavier, commercial technical assessor and TÜV Rheinland representative during the launch, stated, "The opportunity to showcase this new mode of selling (on-demand auctioning) at the Feicorte event was very opportune, providing a means of getting other players involved in the project. It is important for us to take part in this action as it raises our visibility in the sector".
The service provided by the certifier is pioneering in that it facilitates trading and offers greater transparency in the seller-buyer relationship. "We carry out sample-based inspection at registered farms to provide in loco checking of some lots", said Daniel.
The importance of this initiative to the sector is huge. "Having the ability to purchase cattle over the Internet is extremely useful for the sector which hitherto made purchases throughout Brazil by telephone alone with no safety net", added Daniel.
